The well-being of senior citizens is mandated in the Constitution of India under Article 41. Accordingly, both Central and State Governments have issued policies and programmes for their welfare. Gauhati Senior Citizens Association, founded in the year 2000, is regarded as a pathfinder of the Assam Senior Citizens Association. Besides addressing the welfare of its members, the Association actively engages with Central and State Governments to highlight and mitigate issues faced by senior citizens.

• Dr. Devadas Bhorali served as President of the Kamrup (Mahanagar) District Senior Citizens Association from 2015 to 2020.
• Dr. Devadas Bhorali is the current President of the Gauhati Senior Citizens Association and has earlier served as Adviser and Executive President of the Association.
